Mutually supportive independent writers, all happy to share what we know and what we’re doing and learning, and to share the work of running OxIA. We collaborate to promote our work at OxIB and local book fairs.
This year sees an innovation – local mini literary festivals. HeadLitFest, in Headington on 10th May, was a great success – everyone who came in was seriously interested in books; several were budding writers. We’re hoping for a similar atmosphere at WolvLitFest in Wolvercote, 18th October.
We support each other in publishing, marketing and promoting our books, and in raising the profile of independent writers. We are not a creative writing group.
We meet once a month in Headington Quarry Village Hall OX3 8NX. If you’re an independent author or working towards becoming one, please visit our OxIB stand on 23rd November for a chat, or for more information contact us at oxfordindieauthors@gmail.com

His most recent book (The Colour of Memory) was published in October 2025. It is an art-world literary mystery, set in London, Sussex and New York.
Two of the books have Oxford elements. The Blue Book features the city during the Second World War; in The Amber Maze events take place in an Oxford college and in an Oxfordshire country house in the early twentieth century.

‘Life is serious, but is not to be lived too seriously’. Serious or humorous, my poems are always good-natured.
I write when I have something to say, and I feel I have found the right way to say it. It’s about having fun with words and meaning, using words skillfully to say things differently, and saying the familiar in unfamiliar ways.
In 2017 I self-published a collection of poetry and wit as Particles of Light, with a 2nd edition in 2025. The book has been well received and has sold well in my local bookshops.
Intersecting Lines, my second collection, was traditionally published by indie publisher Beercott Books in 2021. In 2025 Beercott Books published my third collection, titled Reflections. These two collections continue to reflect my interest in people, love, the natural world, and the human condition.
There are poems to move you, to surprise you, and to make you laugh. The humorous poems and one-liners are there for entertainment, to be enjoyed, though they often contain a ‘sting in the tail’. I hope readers will enjoy reading my poems and will feel I am putting their own experiences and emotions into words.
It’s such a great feeling when you get good feedback and review comments, or when somebody chooses to take home a copy of your words. That’s communication!
I read regularly at poetry ‘open mics’ and at local literary events, and I give talks about my poetry to community groups.
I’m @chrismlburleigh on X, Facebook, and Bluesky.

Gabriel & the Snow Blossom Tree is the debut children’s story from ex-BBC presenter Fenella George. The first book in a trilogy, Gabriel tells the story of a teenage girl’s journey to find a mythical snow blossom tree hidden deep in a forest. On her journey she gathers a group of animal friends as they discover the wonders of nature, companionship and adventure in their quest to find the Snow Blossom Tree.
The story is magically illustrated by Oxfordshire artist Kath Fotheringham who works in charcoal and interpreted Fenella’s characters and scenes in wonderful detail, lightness of touch and atmosphere, the monochrome illustrations suiting the tranquil simplicity of the story.
‘These are stories to create a calm landscape for busy little minds at the end of a day, to capture the simple joy of being outside in nature – be it at a park in the city or in the countryside – and to find comfort in companionship and home wherever that may be,’ says Fenella.
Gabriel & the Snow Blossom Tree will be accompanied by Dave Kipling, a Green Parakeet and A Tree, a Tickle and a Winter Moon which are due for publiction in the spring of 2026.

Dennis Hamley has been writing for an unconscionably long time. His first book was published in 1962. He has written nearly eighty books, mainly for teachers and young adults, including The War and Freddy, shortlisted for the Smarties (now Nestlé) Prize, Hare’s Choice and the sequence of medieval murder mysteries, The Long Journey of Joslin de Lay.
He now publishes independently under his own imprint, Joslin Books’ though his latest novel, The Second Person from Porlock, a fantasy/riff on the chaotic life of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, was published by Fairlight Books in 2021. His latest book under the Joslin Books imprint is Out of the Mouths of Babes, first published in 1997 by Scholastic Press. This is a ‘Crossover’ novel, suitable for both adults and teenagers.
Dennis became dissatisfied with the original ending: it left his characters frozen in time in 1997 with nothing solved But the final situation would have had big consequences and these had to be followed through. Thus he wrote a new section, ‘Finality’, in an attempt to give a proper sense of an ending. He can only hope he has got it right.
Dennis was born in 1935. He read English at Cambridge and has a PhD from Leicester.

Beautiful, evocative Edinburgh is a key character in this book. It’s where Elisabeth Ludlow studied Modern Languages in the 1970s; the book opens in a student flat in that era, in that city. Following roles as teacher of French and German, busy mother to two children, and Development Director at an Oxford college, “author” is Elisabeth’s exciting new moniker. A Place of Justice was written in retirement, one summer, her diary being blissfully cleared; inspiration kicked in. Obsessed by the task, she completed the first draft in two months. The book focusses on five Edinburgh University alumni in their 50s. Where are they personally and professionally? How can justice be secured in a variety of issues? How can Emily forgive Jimmy, who wants to meet the daughter he abandoned? Why has Luke’s client in his final legal case disappeared? Who can solve the problems in a local care home? Throughout the novel, as word pictures are drawn, the role of place is prominent, be it a Manhattan florist, orangerie in a private home, city law firm, secondary school classroom, or Parisian apartment.

I am pleased and excited to offer my trilogy of books that encompasses my 34 years’ experience as a Numerology Practitioner. I am excited to share my knowledge and my ability to effectively blend Numerology chart numbers for others to find spiritual direction.
I always loved self-discovery, spirituality, and the idea of having a life purpose that serves to evolve my soul. Then when my late father introduced me to Numerology in my early teens, I was hooked! It was everything that I was passionate about all rolled into one. I studied by myself, read every numerology author that I could get my hands on and studied every short course that I could find. But no one thus far has effectively blended a person’s Numerology chart numbers into a coherent and clear plan of action or blueprint. My books will help you to blend chart numbers coherently for yourself and others to create a clear blue print of your tasks and tools for this life time.
The paradigm we live in will gladly tell you what your life purpose is… get your grades at school, work, buy, consume, bring up children, and follow the rules. This is the life the self-serving power system wants you to live, Numerology will remind you of your REAL life purpose and the tools that you brought with you to achieve your purpose.
The first book of my trilogy ‘Remember your Life Purpose’ focuses on reminding you of your life path, or the lessons that you chose to learn in this incarnation. Book 2 ‘Remember your Talents’ details your karmic, current, and emerging talents that you must use to help you to achieve your life purpose. My third of the trilogy ‘Remember your Motivation’ details your passions, interests, motivation, and drive that you also brought with you as a tool to help you to achieve your life purpose. This knowledge will help you to choose a life of purpose, a life of your choosing!

We occupy the basement of the County hall in Abingdon as licensees of Abingdon on Thames Town Council, one of about 30 climate emergency centres located around the UK. Although refreshments are provided to visitors our primary purpose is to communicate the urgency for taking action on climate change and biodiversity loss and the other eight one planet living principles devised by the consultancy Bioregional. In our conversations with the public we are hoping to build community resilience and preparedness for the changes that are likely to occur due to extreme weather and loss of biodiversity. This involves engagement with all the people of Abingdon and its minorities and we are currently bringing the conditions in the Global South into our conversations and fundraising. Our activities include a lending library of relevant books, and work experience with local schools focused on climate jobs; those relevant to and compatible with the transition to zero.

Selfishgenie Publishing is a boutique publishing house dedicated to providing a service for unknown, or relatively unknown, authors and allowing them to become better known. At the same time, we want readers to discover new works by new authors while enjoying their reading experience.
Our philosophy is that readers can’t know if an author is worth reading until they have read one of their books, therefore those books need to be available for them to read.
As a small publishing house, we can’t take on every author who wants to be published, but we can take a few risks. We can give a few unknown authors the break they deserve, while at the same time offering readers the chance to discover the next big name in publishing before their books become expensive to buy.
This year, our author Robert Cubitt will be exhibiting at November’s Oxford Indie Book Fair. he is a multi-genre author of both fiction and non-fiction, so we are sure he will have something to suit your reading tastes.

Chris Ward is Emeritus Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Nottingham. He is also a family therapist, which makes for a unique perspective on medicine. His forthcoming book, due in Spring 2026, is Becoming a Doctor. Re-Membering a Medical Education. It will make compelling reading for anyone who wonders why doctors are the way they are. The author’s ‘re-membering’ views medical education and its effects on students and doctors from the inside. The picture that emerges is sometimes affectionate, sometimes scathing, and often funny. Since retiring from academia Chris’s writing has become progressively more personal in perspective. Meanings of ME: Interpersonal and Social Dimensions of Chronic Fatigue (Palgrave 2015) is academic but does consider the doctor’s self in a clinical context. Between Sickness and Health. The Landscape of Illness and Wellness (Routledge 2019) is an experience-based critique of medical attitudes to health and disease.
