Eniola Oyegunle is a mother to two neurodivergent sons, aged 10 and 6. Inspired by her experiences raising her first son, she recently published a book titled A Champion Speaks: My Sonโ€™s Journey to 10 Years and Thriving Beyond the Label. The book explores raising a child with speech and other developmental delays, concluding with practical guidance on encouraging child development in a supportive home environment.

Being a writer is more than putting words on paper, itโ€™s about giving voice to stories that are often unheard. For me, writing A Champion Speaks was a deeply personal journey, born from my experiences as a mother now determined to champion the voices of neurodivergent children and their families.

Writing to me is a form of healing, reflection, and activism. It has allowed me to express the raw realities of raising my child while also sharing the triumphs, lessons, and hope that fuel our journey.

Since publishing the book, Iโ€™ve felt a stronger sense of purpose in building a โ€œThriving Beyond the Labelโ€ community to serve as a “safe space” for parents and carers of neurodivergent children. Iโ€™ve connected with families who see themselves in the pages. Iโ€™ve witnessed how stories can dismantle stigma and build bridges of understanding. That, to me, is the true power of writing: its ability to shift perspectives and spark change. A Champion Speaks isnโ€™t just a book, itโ€™s a movement and a message. It reminds readers that every voice matters, and every story can become a catalyst for inclusion and empowerment.
