The Next Oxford Indie Book Fair

Dear

We're writing to everyone that has subscribed to our newsletter as well as all those that have exhibited at the recent Indie Book fair – not forgetting those that are still hoping to exhibit. For the latter group., we have some good news!

Many of you emailed thanking us and saying how much you enjoyed the first Oxford Indie Book Fair. We wanted a warm and inclusive atmosphere and visitors tell us you achieved that. From feedback, we gather that most are keen that we organise one or two fairs a year. For that reason we have booked Wesley Memorial Hall for April 2 next year to coincide with the Oxford Literary Festival.

Booking has not yet opened for the next event, but we will write shortly with links to where you can buy tickets to exhibit. As a previous exhibitor and subscriber we would like to offer you you a priority booking opportunity.

The four of us had a post-fair meeting. We were unlucky with numbers through the door. 3,500 people attended the climate change march and some visitors turned back because the buses were late and the car parks full. To do better we will need a bigger presence on the street on the day. This will cost money and we shall try to get more sponsorship so that we don’t need to raise the cost of a table.

We are volunteers who have given our time and energy to the idea of bringing together the Indie sector in Oxfordshire. Our aim is for us all to get to know each other and SUPPORT EACH OTHER. Individually, we have little chance of making a mark on the publishing industry but TOGETHER we can have a voice.

We would love your feedback.

  1. Would you like to exhibit on April 2? (We'll send out booking links later)
  2. Would you volunteer to help set up and clear up at the event?
  3. Are you interested in joining a working party to explore the best ways of promoting the fair? Already a few exhibitors have volunteered to help with promotion. That is how we can keep the cost of a table low but still have a successful fair.
  4. Can we have your feedback on the venue? We hope that the church will become more relaxed about Covid so that we can use the kitchen for drinks and cakes etc. Assuming we can sort out the catering, do you like it as a location? If April 2 is a success we could look for a larger more prestigious venue for November where we could have art as well as books.

Please reply to this email so that your views can be collated.

The Magazine

What do you think of the magazine?

Should we continue with It.? If yes, do you like the balance of content?

If you have not yet made a contribution to the contents and would like to, then let us know. We would also welcome ideas of how to boost the readership so that it promotes exhibitors and the fair.

Sorry about all the questions, but feedback is critical to us.

Meanwhile, Happy Christmas and a New Year’s toast to a bright Indie future,

 Andy, James, Ray, and Sylvia.
