What happens when a lifelong passion for storytelling meets a love for one of the worldโs most iconic metal bands? Eddie Must Die is the explosive resultโwhere mystery, music, and murder collide.
In a recent interview with Anna Cali for NapoliVillage, Antonio Biggio opens up about his journey as a writer, the birth of his Iron Maiden thriller trilogy, and what lies ahead.
Antonioโs passion began early: โAt five, my mother taught me to read and write. Since then, writing has been my anchor, my escape, my way of making sense of the world.โ From letters to poetry to novels, storytelling became a lifelong companion.
The idea sparked while reading about protests against Maidenโs The Number of the Beast tour. โI thought: what if someone wanted to go beyond protestโwanted to eliminate the band?โ Set in a gritty, tense London in 1982, Eddie Must Die begins as a gripping crime novelโbut thatโs just the start.
Eddie Must Die is the first volume in a fast-paced, high-stakes trilogy, followed by Eddieโs Grave and The Three Eddiesโ Enigma. While the first is rooted in the crime genre, the series evolves into a dark web of espionage, Cold War secrets, and international intrigueโwhere Iron Maidenโs tour becomes the backdrop to a much larger conspiracy.
Music drives the energy of the book, but itโs not just for fans. โEven readers unfamiliar with Maiden have loved the story,โ Antonio says. As for religion: โTo create real antagonists, I explored extremismโnot just Islamic, but Christian too. Itโs about how belief can be weaponized.โ
While new thrillers are in the works, Antonio is also drawn to historical fiction: โI want to blend intrigue and historyโto create stories where the past and present collide in unexpected ways.โ
