What happens when a lifelong passion for storytelling meets a love for one of the worldโ€™s most iconic metal bands? Eddie Must Die is the explosive resultโ€”where mystery, music, and murder collide.

In a recent interview with Anna Cali for NapoliVillage, Antonio Biggio opens up about his journey as a writer, the birth of his Iron Maiden thriller trilogy, and what lies ahead.

On falling in love with writing:

Antonioโ€™s passion began early: โ€œAt five, my mother taught me to read and write. Since then, writing has been my anchor, my escape, my way of making sense of the world.โ€ From letters to poetry to novels, storytelling became a lifelong companion.

Why Iron Maiden? Why 1982?

The idea sparked while reading about protests against Maidenโ€™s The Number of the Beast tour. โ€œI thought: what if someone wanted to go beyond protestโ€”wanted to eliminate the band?โ€ Set in a gritty, tense London in 1982, Eddie Must Die begins as a gripping crime novelโ€”but thatโ€™s just the start.

A Trilogy of Shadows and Sound

Eddie Must Die is the first volume in a fast-paced, high-stakes trilogy, followed by Eddieโ€™s Grave and The Three Eddiesโ€™ Enigma. While the first is rooted in the crime genre, the series evolves into a dark web of espionage, Cold War secrets, and international intrigueโ€”where Iron Maidenโ€™s tour becomes the backdrop to a much larger conspiracy.

Music and Religion: The Two Pillars

Music drives the energy of the book, but itโ€™s not just for fans. โ€œEven readers unfamiliar with Maiden have loved the story,โ€ Antonio says. As for religion: โ€œTo create real antagonists, I explored extremismโ€”not just Islamic, but Christian too. Itโ€™s about how belief can be weaponized.โ€

Whatโ€™s Next?

While new thrillers are in the works, Antonio is also drawn to historical fiction: โ€œI want to blend intrigue and historyโ€”to create stories where the past and present collide in unexpected ways.โ€
